NDIS Transport in Townsville

Safe & Sound Transit provides private, pre-booked transport for NDIS participants throughout Townsville and surrounding areas.

We understand that reliable transport can play an important role in helping participants attend appointments, access the community, get to work or study, attend social activities and complete everyday trips.

Our service is focused specifically on transport from one agreed location to another. We do not provide personal care or support work as part of the transport service.

Who Can Use Our NDIS Transport Service?

Safe & Sound Transit can provide transport for NDIS participants who require pre-booked transport within Townsville and surrounding areas.

We can transport both ambulant passengers and wheelchair users, subject to vehicle availability and the passenger's individual transport requirements.

Participants may also travel with a family member, carer or support worker where required.

What Transport Can We Provide?

Our NDIS transport service can be used for a wide range of planned trips, including:

  • Medical and allied health appointments

  • Community activities

  • Shopping

  • Work and study

  • Social outings

  • Lunch and dinner outings

  • Sporting activities

  • Events and entertainment

  • Regular or recurring transport

  • Other pre-arranged destinations

All trips must be booked in advance and confirmed by Safe & Sound Transit.

Wheelchair Accessible Transport

Wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available for participants who need to remain in their wheelchair while travelling.

When making your booking, please advise us if wheelchair access is required and provide information about the wheelchair or mobility device being used.

This allows us to make sure the appropriate vehicle can safely accommodate the passenger and their equipment.

Where necessary, we may arrange a wheelchair suitability check prior to the first trip.

A Transport-Only Service

Safe & Sound Transit provides transport only.

Our drivers are not support workers, carers, nurses or medical professionals and cannot provide services outside the normal requirements of safely transporting a passenger.

This means our drivers do not provide:

  • Personal care

  • Medical assistance

  • Medication administration

  • Lifting or transferring passengers

  • Physical assistance normally provided by a support worker or carer

  • Shopping assistance

  • Assistance carrying groceries or personal belongings

  • Supervision unrelated to the transport journey

If a participant requires personal, physical, medical or behavioural support during their trip, an appropriate carer or support worker must travel with them.

Pick-Up and Drop-Off

Our service is provided from the agreed pick-up location to the agreed destination.

Drivers do not enter a participant's home or private residence as part of the normal transport service.

Participants should be ready at the agreed external pick-up point at the scheduled booking time.

Where additional assistance is required before or after transport, this should be provided by the participant's family member, carer or support worker.

Mobility Aids and Personal Belongings

Reasonable mobility aids and personal belongings may travel with the participant where they can be safely accommodated within the vehicle.

Please advise us of any walkers, wheelchairs or larger mobility equipment when booking.

Safe & Sound Transit does not operate as a courier or delivery service, and we do not transport groceries, medical equipment or other personal items without the passenger travelling with them.

Service and Assistance Animals

Service and assistance animals are welcome to travel with Safe & Sound Transit.

The participant or their representative is responsible for providing an appropriate restraint for the animal during transport. This may include a suitable travel crate, cage, harness or vehicle seat belt restraint.

The animal must remain appropriately restrained while the vehicle is travelling.

Carers and Support Workers

Participants are welcome to have a carer, support worker, family member or other support person travel with them where required.

Please advise us when booking if another person will be travelling so we can ensure sufficient seating and the appropriate vehicle are available.

Where a participant requires assistance outside our transport-only service, an appropriate support person must accompany them.

Plan-Managed Participants

For plan-managed participants, invoices can be provided to the nominated plan management organisation in accordance with the participant's service agreement.

Participants or their authorised representative are responsible for ensuring that the plan manager has the correct information required to process invoices and that sufficient funding is available for booked transport.

Participants or their authorised representative are responsible for providing the right NDIS Code for invoicing. If no code is provided all invoices will be under the in-house general transport code.

Safe & Sound Transit does not have access to a participant's NDIS plan or funding balance and cannot monitor remaining funding.

Self-Managed Participants

Self-managed participants may also use Safe & Sound Transit.

Payment and invoicing arrangements will be confirmed as part of the participant's service agreement and booking process. Participants or their authorised representative are responsible for providing the right NDIS Code for invoicing. If no code is provided all invoices will be under the in-house general transport code.

Participants remain responsible for ensuring that their NDIS funding is available and appropriate for the transport being booked.

Keeping Track of NDIS Funding

Safe & Sound Transit cannot access or monitor a participant's NDIS funding.

The participant, their representative or the person making bookings on their behalf is responsible for confirming that sufficient funding remains available before transport is booked.

If a participant's plan changes, funding is exhausted, suspended or no longer available, we ask that Safe & Sound Transit is notified immediately so that further bookings can be reviewed.

Service Agreements

NDIS participants may be required to complete a Service Agreement before regular transport services commence.

The Service Agreement sets out important information including:

  • The transport services being provided

  • Pricing and payment arrangements, including the specific NDIS Code for invoicing if required.

  • Participant and provider responsibilities

  • Cancellation requirements

  • Funding responsibilities

  • Accessible transport requirements

  • Invoicing arrangements

  • Terms relating to unpaid invoices

Participants should ensure they understand the agreement before signing and let our team know if they have any questions.

Participant Representatives

A participant may nominate or have a legally authorised person or organisation act on their behalf.

This may include a parent, guardian, NDIS nominee, attorney, authorised decision-maker or the Office of the Public Guardian.

A support coordinator, plan manager, carer, family member or other person will only be treated as the participant's representative where they have been appropriately authorised to act on the participant's behalf.

Regular and Recurring Transport

Participants who require transport on a regular basis can arrange recurring bookings with our team.

This may include regular appointments, work, study, community activities or other ongoing transport.

Recurring bookings remain subject to vehicle and driver availability, and participants should advise us as soon as possible if their regular schedule changes.

Cancellations and No-Shows

Where an NDIS participant cancels a booking at short notice or does not attend a scheduled trip, cancellation charges may apply in accordance with the participant's Service Agreement and the current NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.

We recommend contacting our office as soon as possible if a booking needs to be changed or cancelled.
